TWO DAY WORKSHOP REPORT
A brief report on Two Day Workshop on “Techniques in Biotechnology” is described below:
A Two Day Workshop on “Techniques in Biotechnology” was organized on 15th and 16th Febraury, 2019 in Department of Botay, Girraj Government College, Nizamabad. The workshop was organized by Department of Botany and Department of Biotechnology in collaboration with Primer Biotech Research Centre, Hyderabad.
Report on First Day:
Day 1: 15 th Febraury 2019 (Friday)
The two day Workshop was started with a grand inaugural ceremony. The workshop was officially inaugurated by the Patron of the workshop and Principal of the College Sri K. Dubba Rajam, Chief Guest of the workshop Prof. B. Vidya Vardhini , Dean faculty of Science and Computer Sciences, Telangana University, Convener of the workshop P. Latha, Vice-Principial of the college Ankam Ganagadhar and the senior Scientist and Director Primer Biotech Research Centre, Hyderabad.
Delivering her Welcome address, Convenor of the workshop P. Latha said that the workshop has been designed to cater to the needs of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, College Teachers from plant sciences background. She described that main aim of the workshop is to impart the theoretical and practical knowledge of the biotechnology techniques to the students. The training course provides the instructional materials including power point lectures, laboratory exercises and informational resources.
In her address the Chief Guest of the Inaugural session Prof. B. Vidya Vardhini detailed about the importance of the Biotechnology in all human activities. She stressed the importance of Practical workshop that is being organized which will provide
Later, the patron of the workshop K. Dubba Rajam, who is also the Principal of the Girraj Government College (A), Nizamabad, briefed about the academic activities in the college. He described about the achievements of the college in various fields.
Smt. P. Latha, Lecturer in Botany and also coordinator of this lecture workshop welcomed the dignitaries and participants. In her introductory speech, she has elaborated about the aims and objectives of the workshop. She also explained about the day wise schedule of the two day workshop. She introduced to participants 1) Dr. Rajesh Goud Gajula, Senior Scientist and Director Primer Biotech Research Centre, Hyderabad 2) Mr. Chandra Shekar Kagitha, Scientist 3) Mr. Durga Prasad, Junior Scientist . She also thanked the resource persons and participants who have come to this two day lecture workshop, which is being organised at Girraj Government College, Nizamabad.
The keynote address was given by the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Session Prof. B.Vidya Vardhini , Dean, Faculty of Science and Computer Science, Telangana University. She elaborated on the importance of Biotechnology in Human Welfare and impact it will have on the human society in the future. She advised the young students to develop a mindset of asking questions to be involved in research activities in the form of summer projects and have patience in their pursuit of development of Science.
The Inaugural session came to an end with vote of thanks given by Mr. P. Ravi Raj, Assistant Prof. of Botany, Girraj Government College, Nizamabad.
After the Inaugural session, Technical session started. On the first day of workshop, Isolation of DNA from Leaf sample was explained and participants isolated the DNA. Later, technique of Polymerase Chain Reaction was explained and demonstrated batch wise.
Report on Second Day:
Day 1: 16 th February 2019 (Saturday)
On the Second day of the workshop, Lecture on Agarose Gel Electrophoresis was delivered by the Resource persons. And in the afternoon session participants separated the DNA using the Agarose Gel Electrophoresis.
In the brief feedback session, which was held at the very end of the workshop, the participants and faculty came to a unanimous view regarding the high utility of this kind of workshop.
All of them expressed their gratitude and thankfulness to the Principal, Convener for arranging a practical based workshop on the latest techniques in Biotechnology and getting acquainted with the PCR and Gel Electrophoresis.
The successful completion of two days workshop ended with vote of thanks rendered by Smt P. Latha, HoD, Department of Botany, Girraj Government College, Nizamabad.
The lecture workshop ended with every one participating in Indian National Anthem.
